What type of cable would I need for a cabling contractor to use in a LAN star topology?
So far i have down UTP Cat-5 wiring with RJ-45 connectors and twisted pair/RJ-45 crossover cables for DCE/DTE devices. Do i need Cat-5 wiring without RJ-45 connectors for hard wiring from the hub to the wall jack? Am i missing anyhting else?

The type of cable is simple Cat5e, you want the E at the minimum, or I really suggest Cat6 that way you're ready for the new 10GB ethernet technology. The contractor will install the cable from the wall jack at the customer to a patch panel in the wiring closet. He will terminate those cables directly into an RJ-45 connector. At that point, you'll need Cat5e or Cat6 patch cables to go from your patch panel to your hub, switch, or router and you'll need another set of patch cables to connect the computers to the wall jack. Also, you'll need the right cable to hookup your uplink to the next hub, switch, or router. Your uplink could be anything, it's most likely Cat5e or Cat 6 but it could be fiber. A star topology just means that all your nodes, aka computers, attach directly to an infrastructure device, aka hub, switch, or router; so if you lose one computer connection, none of the other computers are affected.

How to make a twisted pair network cable to connect from PC to router?
I would like to DIY a network cable to connect my computer with router, so which kind of cable i would need to do? (crossover or straight cable?) By the way, can tell me the way to arrange the color of the cable when i want to pin it to RJ45?

I had made a color chart for my own use but posted it for you on my website: http://www.mermeliz.com/html/cat5_cable_color_code.gif There are notes I had written onto the chart to explain when one would use a crossover cable. Crossover cables are explained here: http://www.homenethelp.com/web/explain/about-ethernet-crossover.asp Remember to make up all of the wires! To answer your question, you use a straight through cable for computer to router. Really the crossover is used mostly if you conect one computer to the other. Everything else uses just a normal cable. Hope this helps.

Which twisted pair cabling standard should be used when going between 2 switches? Straight-thru or crossover?

Technically it has to be crossover BUT... Newer switches can auto sense the type of cable and electronically switch the port to crossover instead of you having to use one so a straight-through will most likely work. With an older switch there should be an uplink port with a switch to change that port from normal to crossover.

How can I connect a single ethernet dock to two computers?
My friend has a ass brother, who doesn't let him use the internet at all. I've decided to help him, the only problem is that he kinda lacks funds right now. The brother himself, isn't tech savvy so I was planning to connect a twisted pair to the router...or is it a modem, the router gets it's data or packets from a fiber optic cable attached to the router itself, but saw the router only has one ethernet plug (I think it's meant to have only one). Anyway as I was saying, I was planning to connect a twisted pair to my friends computer, where he'll be able to browse the net. As he lacks the funds as of now, how will be the best way to do this without buying a switch. The router in his brothers' bedroom itself has one ethernet plug[I think it's a router or a modem,I dunno the difference:-(between a router and modem), the brothers' computer has two ethernet plugs via the Network Interface Card, could I connect a twisted pair to the other available ethernet plug in the NIC and draw data from his computer unknowingly, while using his computer as a router with special router software(if that's even possible) that can perform router functions. Is it possible to connect a single twisted pair RJ 45 to two twisted pair cables to access the single ethernet female dock? what about a crossover cable modification of sometype, since I'm sure some data will pass because of basic physics? Maybe it would be better, if he just saved up to get a switch or buy a router to daisy chain to another router? Thanx for ur help.
